Weekly Update

Programon - or Beast Signer or whatever it'll end up being called - is coming along well. You know... that thing I talked about last time, whenever that was.

I've got the basic platforming engine set up and stuff, and have made some customisable player character sprite things. Now it's time to finalise the gameplay mechanics and designs some monsters; it is a monster catching game, after all!

Since I've been working on getting better at art over the last year or to, I can approach this more seriously than I did with Beast Signer Alpha. With THAT - and MARDEK too - I just drew the monsters directly into the game without really *designing* them first, leading to some rather bland results.

This time, I'm doing what I did with Miasmon, and drawing monsters before even THINKING of adding them to the game, going through various sketches until I end up with something that I like.

I'll continue working with these, and I intend to get the in-game menus (a boring but necessary feature) and a very basic battle system set up by the end of the week. It's doable!!

Thanks for the update in progress Pseudo!

As you've said before, I know you don't really like posting an update if you feel like you don't really have much to talk about, but it's really much better for us (and you?) if you post shorter blogs more often, as it makes it more readable for us and probably more writable for you. And it also keeps us in the loop and gives a better idea of your progress in a game and how you're doing.

Pseudo, would you be overwhelmed with work if you let us come up with some ideas for monsters before the game comes out? Because you might get some really good ideas from us. That is part of why you made this website, right?

Personal opinion, I like how Leafawn looks and the shell thing below it. But it urks me how the dragon thing is so...cutesy. I think if it's gonna be a dragon it should be intercourseing badass looking....But I'm not making the game.

It's an Essent stage mon, they're basically like babies, they're not meant to look intimidating or strong or anything.

If A β Pseudolonewolf made all dragons intercoursing badbutt, you'd have to be stuck using none of them in the early stages of the game. :P

Ohmygosh! Idea: I absolutely LOVED how Nintendo did the menus for Metroid Prime 2, with the whole exploded sphere-atom lookin' thing. Searching "google sphere" and clicking on the first link does roughly the same thing. It'd be awesome if you could do something like that in Programon. Just a suggestion.

They all look great. My only negative comment is the bug looks a little too much like one of the current generation pokemon, Ventipede I think. A positive on the same one is your version looks cooler.
