Weekly Update

Sorry that I didn't write one of these last week; I've been having a lot of very frustrating and distracting issues in my personal and home life recently, which have prevented me from making any significant progress on anything and they've also been making me feel really rather miserable and annoyed.

They're largely things outside my control, but I think they may clear away soon... I hope. I'm still trying to work on games every day, but progress is slow.

I want to ask you a question though, people.

What's the longest you've ever worked on a single creative project before getting bored of it and giving up?

I've been working on Miasmon for much longer than I ever intended to; probably more than a year now. It's irritating. But I'm sticking with it, even though at times it pains me to do so. I'm trying to take breaks and fill time with other distractions to prevent myself from hating it completely, but progress really has ground down almost to a halt lately because it's so hard to be enthusiastic about something you've worked on for so long.

I know that at least some people will complain at me for not chaining myself up inside a room and spending 24 hours a day working on something that they'll be able to get for free, giving me nothing in return even when I am done, but I wonder whether those same people who criticise me for not getting work done have ever spent any considerable amount of time on a creative project themselves. Perhaps they simply don't understand how difficult it can be?

It's especially tough since I have anxiety issues that I constantly have to endure, and no friends or life that could actually make me happy. Oh well. Maybe one day.

Just to be clear though, I AM still working on things; I'm just going through a tough time so progress is slow during this phase. I don't like it either. I know how frustrating it is that I'm not an unfeeling machine.

Anyway, again I actually ask, out of interest rather than rhetorically:

What's the longest you've ever worked on a single creative project before getting bored of it and giving up?

Weekly Update

I've been working on Miasmon this week, and I'm edging closer to the finishing line, though there's still quite a bit left to do. I've not really got anything particularly interesting to say about it though.

I've also finally got around to rewriting the temperaments page, though this time I've put the information on a smaller sub-site thing rather than this main site. It can be seen here: ∞ Fig Hunter ∞

It's been rewritten from scratch to be clearer than the last page. I have years more experience than I did last time, so I hope that it can clear up some misconceptions.

I'd be interested to hear what people think, so then I might improve it to make it even clearer.

Has Sunday come and gone already? Oh.

As you have probably already noticed, I'm working on Miasmon at the moment. Around 30 monsters still need artwork, so I've been drawing their designs in the format I've been showing you here, then converting them to sprites for the game afterwards.

I feel like I'm getting much closer to the end now... but there's still an irritating amount left to do which seems to have remained constant for a while now even though I feel I've been working quite hard. It feels like running towards a landmark, which you can see clearly on the horizon, but despite all the running you're doing, you don't actually seem to be getting much closer! Since you can SEE it long before you reach it. Or something. Yes. o_O

I've no idea how much longer it'll take, but hopefully not long, because I really, really want to have SOMETHING out soon! It's been far too long since I actually made any money... Or any significant amount, anyway. Interestingly, I still get money every month from advert revenue here and on Kongregate, as well as small amount every so often for the soundtracks.

I'll probably continue to upload the Miasmon Bestiary things as I draw them; I'm trying to do two or three a day, but I don't know if I'll do any today since I need to get some other stuff done...

I'm not really doing any more work than I usually do, but since I'm able to actually show you these things as I make them, you do see progress as it happens so it appears that I'm working unusually fast.
It'd be great if I could find some way to do this with all my projects, to say 'look, I AM doing stuff rather than sitting around scratching myself all day!'
