I think if you went through with this it'd be a huge mistake.

On the one hand, we all understand at this point that this new Mardek will be a fresh start, a new vision of the concept done in a completely different way. On the other hand, big changes like this push the game in the direction of being more of a tribute of the original.

You also mention that at least some of your reasoning lies behind wanting to attract more women to your work... I really don't think this is the way to do this for a few reasons;

1) Mardek was never really that manly a character anyway - it adds more to his character that he isn't a guy with those traits. Turning the character into a woman would require some rethinking of how the character works, otherwise I can imagine some people thinking you were writing the stereotypical "dumb blonde" type, which would put people of both genders off really, especially women.

2) You have a fairly strong chance of alienating the fanbase you currently have. For those of us that have been here throughout the series as you released the games, we've grown to Mardek as a character, as well as the rest of the cast.

You've already mentioned that you've changed a lot of the cast around which could be interesting depending on how it's done, but such a major change to the main character itself could end up pushing people away.

3) Your reasoning for this is to get more people interested, specifically women. Whilst I can see why you'd want to get more people interested, I can't agree with the method. I've been a gamer all my life really and I've watched so many games and companies lose their way through trying to make compromises in order to attract people that they wouldn't normally.

The thing about your games up to this point is that they undeniably have a certain vibe to them - you have a distinct personality that comes through in your games and it adds a lot to them. I can't help but worry that changing things just to try and get more people interested will get you making decisions you wouldn't normally and lose some of the soul of the game as a result.

I'm still interested to see where this project goes either way, but I'm hoping that you decide to not change Mardek's gender.

Interesting ideas...

I quite like the idea of releasing parts of each episode as they are remade - it'd probably make it easier to make the systems of the games flow more evenly between each other. That and it'd make Mardek 3 potentially more accessible to people that'd otherwise find the sheer scale of it a bit daunting.

I'm not too sure about the idea of shoehorning it all into the Alora Fane world though. I can see why the idea would appeal to you, but I can imagine it flowing a lot more smoothly as it does now rather than trying to make changes to make it work in that world.

If you did go down that road, it'd probably work better as a retelling of the story - maybe they think Mardek is a legend in their world and tell the story how they think it would have been, that kind of thing.

Generally though I think it'd work better keeping it separate from AF, but you're stuff has always been incredibly good so I'm sure you can make it work!

Whilst the community here has shrunk considerably, we haven't fully dissolved. Even with everything going on, there are still a good number of us hanging around and seeing if we can make this place work. I think we can, personally. I think most people will agree with me though when I say it hasn't been the same since you've not been participating.

To be fair, we were incredibly lucky to have a dev actually involved and invested in the community around their games for that period, so I thank you for that.

As far as the reputation stuff goes, there's two sides to it really;

1) I think our reputation as a community is as important as yours. To be fair, the community reputation isn't exactly great either at the moment. Both sides have definitely made mistakes, I'm definitely part of that as well so I want to take this opportunity to say sorry. I always meant well, but admittedly overreacted at some points.

2) You say it's too late, but really, it never is. You're clearly showing now that you feel bad about what happened and what can be done from now on and that's really good! I think now we've hit a point where both sides have backed down - for the first time in a while we actually have a chance to properly fix things if you're willing.

Your reputation might have taken a hit, but so has ours. :) If it is breakable, it is fixable. Given enough chance and enough effort from both sides, we can all get past this.

It's also good that you've learned lessons for either this or the next community, and I think there should be one. Given the "make your own adventure" type thing you have going with Alora Fane, it could give the community something to revolve around.

Ignore this last bit if you like but just an opinion - ultimately this is a site for your games and so on... The personality type stuff is interesting, or at least it is to me, but I think you should think it through a bit before adding stuff too far away from games to the site in future, that seemed to split the community up quite a bit I think. Maybe having it on another site and having links there would be good?

I mean, personally I liked the changes up until the end of Archive (temperaments, orbs etc.), but most things after that just seemed to stray too far from the nature of the site. I dunno, just a thought. :)

Anyway, I'm glad you're making an attempt to reach out to us again. Most of us here want this place, the community and of course yourself happy and back to normal!

I know it's important for you to have an example of the type of thing that you can create, but perhaps you should just consider releasing it without one?

There are plenty of other game creators out there (RPG Maker instantly comes to mind) where no sample games are provided - that doesn't stop people buying it and making games with it. Since people can make and share the games they make as well, there would probably be pretty good example quests up in a short time period anyway, particularly from the testers that are already up to speed with how it works.

I know it isn't an ideal outcome for you, but maybe it'll be better this way so you can free yourself up to work through the things that effect you without the burden of trying to get something out there. There's nothing stopping you at all from coming back at a later time and making and adding your own quests then with your improved mindset.

Anyway, take all the time you need. We want a happy and well Pseudo and if you need to take time away from all this to make that happen, that's what you should do. :)

After reading all this, I hope you stay gone. What you've tried saying about other people speaks loads about you.

Just to comment on one thing, how dare you say that about Oni! Either of two things are true here; either you made that up or she actually revealed that to you and you've just ruined that trust.

If its the former, you've just dragged her into your own sorry little mess and you should be ashamed of yourself.

If its the latter... That's just plain evil. She very clearly told you that in strictest confidence her most personal issues - you have no right, AT ALL to make that public. I don't care how angry you are with this site at the moment, as far as I'm concerned that's the lowest of the low.

And you tried to change her?! Some friend you are. If you really wanted to help you'd have tried to support her and help her deal with things IF she wanted the help. You sure as hell don't try and change someone because they've reacted a certain way to an incredibly traumatic situation. If you had any sense at all you'd clearly be able to see that she doesn't trust easily - why should she even consider trusting anyone now regardless of their gender? Thoughtless. Absolutely thoughtless.

If you have any decency at all you'll remove what you've said.

Just read this in a blog just now and thought I'd spread the word! Any PC gamers here that use the Origin service can download the original Dead Space for free. Not sure if it's in error or genuine, but worth going for whilst it is free! :)

I put for the games, as that's why I came here.

That being said, I stay here for the community value of it, something I believe should have been an option here since I doubt I'm the only person that stays for that reason.

I'm inclined to agree with this - you've already done various games through sponsorship and you've said yourself that they don't bring anywhere near enough money in, especially for the amount of hours put into them.

Also, maybe it is my imagination but the amount of flash games coming out seems to be slowly decreasing in recent years. I'm sure it'll be a viable market for some time still, but you'd probably get more out of your original pay-to-play system.

Maybe I've missed something, but who is Ali supposed to be?

For what it's worth, I think it would have been better off not posting this message at all. It's just as dubious as anything else to do with this and the whole subject should have been just left to die.

Hope those of you that keep making trouble are happy now.

I used to be a regular here, years ago back when the site was still in Archive form. For me, this was an important place during my teenage years - where I couldn't find it in the real world, I found a place where I was having fun, knew plenty of great people and whilst there was the occasional troll or a bit of trouble, the atmosphere was generally quite lighthearted and entertaining. Discussion was varied and for the most part this place thrived.

A few years ago though I stopped coming here. Don't really remember why, more than likely just needed a break from here after so long. Anyway, that's not really relevant. Recently, I'd say within the last 6 months or so, I started coming back again. I knew the community was getting smaller and I knew things would be different here now Pseudo was distancing himself from the site but it couldn't be that bad, right?

I couldn't have been more wrong. The tone of this place has changed considerably.

Then came the bans, and following that just a few days ago, the stuff with Frances.

I encourage you to take a look back over recent blogs. Scan the forums. If you've been in chat, remember what went on. You'll find that the vast majority of all of it is to do with the above. If I were to come here as an (actual) new person here right now, I wouldn't know what to think - it pretty much dominates at the moment.

This place has almost certainly gone past the point of no return now. I was in chat for a while before and during the whole colour changing thing, as well as for the DUUUUH stuff a while ago. During both times, but not only those times, I felt so ashamed for being part of this community. Last night in particular was disgraceful.

Regardless of how much or little you like Pseudo and what he's doing, done, or might do in the future, nobody has a right to start messing with his stuff. On the same note, I accept that Frances was Ratio and SHE is who she is. There's no point debating that - that factors in to her identity, but doesn't change the facts of what happened. I believe she should have had another chance after she came clean, but quite frankly I'm starting to think this place is better off gone.

There's much more I could say on this but I have to go to work, so I'll finish with this;
For those asking in the last few months if this place was dying, straight answer - it died a long time ago. This place still exists and still has a community, sure, but it'll never be like it was again.

Again, I encourage everyone to look back over the last few months. Won't be hard to see how this place has fallen.
