MARDEK RPG: Chapter 3

The third chapter in the story of MARDEK. Mardek is now a Royal Knight, who's sent on various missions for the King. Of course, things aren't that simple... And Rohoph's still alive; the Governance de Magi can't be havin' with that.

Chapter 3 includes oodles more party members, and less linear gameplay. Exciting.
It took forever to make - three years! - because I recoded the engine from scratch, which took a while and many failed attempts, and removed a lot of enthusiasm that I had for the game.

This chapter contains 40+ hours of gameplay, and includes remade versions of the first two chapters.

why won't you continue this series.... ive been waiting along with A LOT of other people for the 4th part... you can't just leave your best game like that.... make it for your fans.... It's one of the best games i've played and i am not kidding... that comical final fantasy style gives it an air few games have... it's my number one flash game...! i hope you will get back to mardek when you finish whatever else you're doing now....

Although I'd like to, it's easier said than done. I just don't have it in me to make this at the moment; I need more time.

He's never said he won't go back, just that he's burned out on the subject. It is a great game though and I'd like to see more of it just like you!

If they're true fans of MARDEK they will stay around, or at least figure out a way to be notified when it's released. I really doubt he would wait ten years anyways.

I must say, I really enjoyed this series. Upon finishing MARDEK 3, I'll go ahead and try the other games on your site. You seem like a very talented person. Not very often do I find someone who is able to draw, compose and code for his own game. Kudos to you.
I have some really tiny advice with little to no importance, regarding the "Soak" abilities. In my opinion, these abilities pale in comparison with the DMG-% ones, since most of the damage you sustain is well over 100, at least for me. I'd recommend setting it to a percentage of MAX HP rather than a set number. For example, DMG Soak 3% would sustract damage equivalent to 3% of the user's MaxHP from every attack, that way you guarantee their usefulness during all the remaining chapters.

Or Psudolonewolf could introduce skills like Damage soak 100. That way, damage soak wouldn't become a clone of Damage - %

You DO realize that you are responding to a post that is over 2 months old, right? Posts like these are considered wastes of space. Plus, he wasn't saying that DMG Soak abilities were clones of DMG -%.

Sorry... very long explanation.

What he is suggesting isn't cloning damage - %. It is instead blocking damage based on your max HP, which would be one way to synergize something with Vitality. It also, like he says, helps to make soak increase damage blocked as the game progresses, just as Damage - % improves block as damage increases. However, if the damage is calculated as I understand, I think soak should be left to improving in value, but not revamped like Greensburg suggests as a growth stat. If you have a large amount of damage - % stats, the Soak becomes quite useful. This makes you consider leaving out elemental defences that you could get otherwise.

Here's an example of my viewpoint. My guess is that damage - % is calculated into the equation before Soak is taken into account. Therefore, if you have damage-10% and Soak -10, you can block any damage up to 11 damage completely (11 - 1.1 - 10 is approximately 0). If you have 20 of both, you can block 25 damage (25 - 5 - 20 = 0). If you have 30 of both, you can block nearly 43 damage (43 - 12.9 - 30 is nearly 0). For 40, you can block 66 damage completely (66 - 26.4 - 40 is less than 0), for 50 you can block 100 damage (100 - 50 - 50 = 0), and 60 -dmg% with 60 soak would be able to block a whole 150 damage (150 - 90 - 60 = 0). Shown in a chart, that would be:

Code:
Table showing maximum value for full-damage block against block amount (-dmg % & dmg soak combo)
Block Amount | Maximum Full-Damage Block
     10 | 11
     20 | 25
     30 | 43
     40 | 66
     50 | 100
     60 | 150

Using the two methods separately results in additive scaling, Soak blocking 10, then 20, then 30, etc., and damage - % blocking 10%, then double that, then triple 10%, etc. When both are together, 50 block and soak is worth approximately 9x what 10 of each would be. If both types of block improved as the game went on, either late game "Max HP Soak" would be far overpowered or early game it would be incredibly weak. This setup is about right.

FYI, while my numbers do reflect the values I would guess are telling in how my opinion is laid out, they do leave out one detail I have surmized about the game (which could be completely wrong, thanks to random numbering in the game). This opinion is that when you mix dmg - 10% and dmg - 20%, you don't get additive scaling to where you block 30% of all damage. Instead you block 10%, and then 20% of what is remaining, called multiplicative scaling, effectively giving you block of only 28%. This would apply to dmg - 30% as well, and I think Legion could get dmg - 40%, which would also apply.

Great game, as always expected by Psuedolonewolf. However, there is possibly one complaint I have. If the Magic Shield is casted upon an ally and you heal them (example, Gloria's Earth Heal), the Magic Shield halves your healing potential on that ally. Otherwise, great game as always and I hope Psuedo will continue his legacy of RPG's.

Remember finding this game on Kongregate. I was curious about Fighunter, so I checked out this website. That was --possibly-- one of my best choices ever. I am still playing this game, logging (currently) 9 hours of play time. I know that the second MARDEK RPG 4 comes out, I will be playing the game for a very, very long time.

This might be this site's best game. it is too bad it is most likely the last of the Mardek series to be done in this decade and possibly this century.

Is it possible to speak about this masterpiece and do not repeat other posts? Is it possible to express such special feelings with nothing but plain words?

I met MARDEK about two years ago... From the first time we saw each other, I knew I found content for tons of hours spend by accompanying a naive young man trough his fate. I was immediately cough by the rich story and music I never though I could hear in a flash game. When I heard piece "Memory," I though I have found meaning of my life. In the end of the second chapter, my heart was broken, seemed forever.

*sigh* Dear Pseudolonewolf, the work we see is a unique combination of talent, creativity, but mainly, we see the work of will strong enough to create. I can imagine, how difficult it must be.

Thank You

Right from the beginning of this series, I could tell MARDEK would be great. Now, MARDEK 3 is the only game online that I could easily play for 27 hours. I would have waited twice as long for this game to come out, and it doesn't matter to me when the next game in the series will be, just that it has even half of the brilliant story and challenging puzzles as its predecessor.

Well, the double post implies you're having some other sort of issue as well (either technological or between your chair and keyboard). Try playing the game at www.kongregate.com as well. See if you're running into the same issues there.

The only other thing I can think of is: how long are you waiting for it to load? It's a fairly large game, though I think the pre-loader kicks off pretty quickly. Are you having the same (or a similar) problem with other flash games on this site or on other sites?
