About Beta Testing

Miasmon isn't really as finished as I'd like just yet, but I may as well actually start choosing beta testers soon from those who applied.

Originally, I planned to choose people for just Miasmon... but I think that I'll maybe make the beta tester position more permanent.

What I mean is that, rather than waiting until my games were fully finished before testing them, I could seek feedback about them in their earliest alpha stages, so then I could know what people think throughout the entire development process, which would hopefully result in better games.
Only chosen beta testers would be able to see these alpha stages, though.

That means that if I choose you as a beta tester now, you'll stay as one unless you misbehave, and will be able to see any future games as they're being made! Isn't that exciting?!

It also means that I'd probably be often on the look out for new testers... though I wouldn't want to be pestered constantly about it by people that I didn't recognise at all.

At the moment, I'm building a part of the site to upload games for testing, so that'll probably take much of the rest of the day. Then I may choose testers... and might upload Miasmon within the next few days, if I'm up to it.

Well, I'll be honest. I really want to be a beta tester, as so do many, even though I might not qualify. Sure I'll play the betas and point out any bugs/glitches like any other person would, however I'm not one for giving out ideal feedback, but I'll still give the average opinions and suggestions which seem helpful to me, and may/may not seem fitting to you. Also I can assure you that any thing I catch will be legitimate. I'd treat this more of a serious matter, but I'll still enjoy the perks of it.

So, if you would allow to have a beta tester that could point out some bugs and faults, but has no innovative feedback to spare. Would you please consider me?
Thanks anyways.

If you still need some beta testers, I am a 26 yo male in my last year of medical education. Your games remind me that old school is the best school, and to beta test them would be an honor.

Testing games before their complete?!?!?! What kind of mad person are you?! You'll start a revolution with that kind of talk.

It would be nice if you could tell us what you would want in these permanent beta testers, and if its any different from your needs on the other post. (though I'm guessing that means i Still wont be eligible, : )

Good Luck!

I'm not putting too much hope on getting chosen since I only fill in one requirement on being a girl, but I'm hoping there are so few that you might pick me anyway.

Well I figure that it couldn't to ask one more time. I'm feeling pretty excited because in one more day I'll have been a member for a week! And over those many days my grammer has improved to the point where I stop getting bad "L" ratings. Anyway, I've already asked before to become a beta tested for Miasmon and I've been rejected before. The reason I haven't been picked was due to many reasons. You didn't know me, I was new, You had no reason to trust me, I fit every expectation exept for the age limit (I'm not sure how important that is to you)
Since I've been a member on this site I've had a lot of adapting to do and I've made a few posts that were unessesary, and could be concidered a waste of space and I'm sorry for that. I Have been a fan of yours since I was a little kid having no money to my name your free online games was a breath of fresh air and an inspiration to make my own online game.(which didn't turn out so well) You don't know much about me, I know of you but don't know you personally. The only reasons you'd have to trust my with your betas' would be that I'm a majour fan who'd REALLY wouldn't want to disapoint you, and that if you have faith in me I promise to not let you down but then again I could be lieing (which I'm not).
It's obvious that you'd reject this but I have high hopes and I really want to a bigger part of this website and it's many features. If not for beta testing then something else I don't care what. Mostly I just want to establish a relationship between us. (Preferably not a bad one) but no matter what, I'll still be your #1 Fan. :)

{ aw you guys make me sad:( }

If you want to establish a relationship with Pseudolonewolf it would probably be best to start from scratch. Put the Beta testing out of your mind for now because, as you clearly know, you don't fulfill any of his requirements. First, I suggest you get more involved with the site and Pseudo's hobbies. Have a go on a few of the personality tests, Pseudo seems quite fond of them. I'm not saying to align your tastes to Pseudo's but this is his site, it's a part of Pseudo. If you're involved with the site and its community, you're involved with Pseudo. Okay, that sounded wrong.

In short, have fun on the site, talk to people, make friends and be who you are. Don't do it for the beta testing, do it because you're Pseudo's number one fan. If you can do all that then Pseudo might ask you to become a future Beta tester. A big emphasis on future, mind you. You're still a tad too young, as you know, but then time can do wonders. Get busy having fun here and patience won't even be an issue.

Hiya pseudo,

A few questions (not that I volunteered as beta-tester - because I wouldn't fit to your expectations - but I'm curious); How many days do you give those beta-testers to complete the game? You said it's +- 10 hours gameplay, and even 20 hours if the tester want to play both characters. You "might upload Miasmon within the next few days", but first the beta-testers should have their time to test out the game, and then the improvements (because of the comments of the testers) are coming... You expect this to happen in a matter of days, or am I underestimating your development of the game?
As next question; where will you upload the game? Kongregate again at first or..?

Sounds like a structurally sound plan! That way you avoid the hassle of repeating the process every time you wish to test a project, be it a game or something you wish to keep more personal for the moment. It will also most likely help you create that base group of trusted testers you were looking for some months back. Win-win right?

Ive been working on a second clay model of Miasmon, of Wingecko. This one's still a prototype, but i would like to hear opinions on it from you and the community. I find it quite fun to recreate your concepts and models, theyre not ridiculously complex or over the cliff and theyre also quite pleasing to the eye:

I also still have Protonculus from a few months back:

I believe this is quite an efficient plan! If the Beta tester place is permanent, it means that you wouldn't have to repeatedly hunt for new testers every time you work on a new project.
You are quite right in not trusting too much: we all know it's been a lot of work to create your Flash games, particularly Miasmon, so for all that to be ruined by a single person who decided to share and ruin your game would be abhorrent. The select few that you know for long enough and trust to give you periodic and frequent feedback are quite probably willing and able to retain their titles for longer: if they assist you sufficiently with the current stage of development, I agree that they'd be helpful for the next!

I personally am not actively putting myself forward for a place, as I have barely been on this website for two days, and I probably would not have the time to feedback enough either.
Overall, I think the idea you've come up with is a good one, and it would be generally more practical for you. I wish you good luck for the final stages of developing Miasmon, especially so you are pleased with your own work yourself, and don't rush too much on it. Fighunter have been waiting for some time now, we can most definitely wait a while longer!

This man makes good points. I'd also like to add that having a stable club of testers and an ongoing beta process should make it much easier to generate useful feedback on concepts and mechanics than the current blog postings seem to manage. The added social level might even make the process somewhat enjoyable and improve production rates as a result while also granting the beta team enough access to help Pseudo focus on current projects. This could be the breakthrough in project management Pseudo's been looking for.

Interesting. Do you think this will streamline your development process, since you'll be able to see what players are thinking during every stage of the game? Or, is the goal to just arrive at a more polished product, since you have input throughout the process, but with less concern on the time end of the spectrum?

Also: Bonus points to you for using the actual beta symbol.
