MIASMON PROTOTYPE!!

◊ Posted by A β Pseudolonewolf
Categories: Miasmon
Well, I've done what I said I would and uploaded the unfinished 2011/2012 version of Miasmon as a playable prototype! You can access it here: ∞ Fig Hunter ∞

I'm sorry that it's not finished and never will be, but it's still possible to get a few hours of enjoyment out of what it is.

I'll write on Alora Fane about what I want to do with the project from here, and I'll also play through this game myself to see if there are any CRIPPLING BUGS. I do know that there's one where it just suddenly stops receiving commands in battle, though it's rare and I don't know how to reproduce it. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do if you are unlucky enough to encounter that is restart... so please save often!

In the same room, there should be a portal in the center. It's exactly four steps back from the space you stood when you fought him. Enter that portal, and collect the object.

Once you do that, the object itself will tell you what to do next - go back to Zenith Forest and fight the girl who was standing in your way just before the exit. She will open up two new "paths," one where she was blocking you and another back in Dawnville. She tells you about both in the dialogue after you beat her. After that, it's pretty straightforward.

Hope this helped ^^;

Well look at that, you included an extra boss, a second bonus boss, and even a Jim battle! The plot seemed to be going pretty nicely. I was enjoying the system of many selectable skills that draw off of a pool of 'mp' though; reminded me of Dragon Warrior: Monsters in that sense. The difficulty curve seemed pretty good, though I had quite a time finishing off a certain regenerating tanky earth miasmon in one battle.

I really enjoyed the system for getting new monsters, and grinding out that very first 3 rarity spirit was an amazing move. That miasmon is almost broken due to physical immunity. The later second spirit of another type I got was similarly fun to abuse. All of the missing image monsters were kind of funny!

Leveling was well paced. I had 2 level 10 monsters upon finishing the final big battle, others were 8 or 9.

I did hit the unselectable commands bug a few times. I don't know how to reproduce it, unfortunately.

Also, right near the beginning of the game, stepping on the portal in the center of the ruins before it is accessible to the special battle room causes you to get stuck.

I think that the rate of acquisition of currency was a bit too low though. I wanted to try out more miasmon, but it was simply too costly. Grinding monsters hoping for drops to sell for only 5 was just too low to compensate. It was especially notable when the costs for rings and skill replacement items are factored.

There may have been a bug with the Energy Barrier skill. It seemed to imply it could block any incoming damage equal to level x 20, but it never blocked damage any time I ever used it.

I found I never needed my restorative items at all, but it was rather early into the game of course.

I really enjoyed my time playing this game though. Your works are always a real treat and give me enjoyment in ways a lot of companies just can't provide, and I thank you for that. Your mixing of seriousness and humor certainly helps.

I just beat the boss, is there anything I could do after that? And here is one bug iI found, after interacting with one of the orange crystals suddenly I'm not able to converse with any of the NPC's. Overall, this was quite fun, though I was expecting to see some of the areas in the screenshots.

So, I've played through the entirety of it. Beat all the trainers, opened all the chests, and gathered 100% essence on every wild Miasmon encounter (Including the one evolved one you can't create at the machine!! lol). I crafted all of the ones possible, but idk if I want to train them all to level 6 or not.

I dunno if you read this any more, Pseudo, but did you want any feedback on it? Constructive of course, and not based on the incomplete-ness of it. But are there any systems that you wanted to carry over, or were you curious about how x or y felt, etc? I'd be happy to give you some if so desired. (I can also report on a few bugs, though I didn't find any that hindered me more than a couple minutes.)

Overall though, it was a fun few hours. And your artwork was quite good on all aspects. Thanks for uploading it! ^^

EDIT: I'm leaving this comment here instead of on Alora Fane since, as you mentioned, it's more of a Fig Hunter game. Additionally, I figured more technical talk can stay here, even if it isn't inherently negative. Hope you see this! :)

Well, I'm writing this just in case... This game is a nice, good, interesting one, BUT, a big, hugish question - When Are You Going to start on making releasing Mardek 4? :/ I trully want to play 'dat, Everyone (I guess), or at least the big side of Fighunter, wants to continue on playing that game, because mardek was one of your most successful games made, and it is very interesting RPG and so on, PLUS, you wrote on at 'Games' where description about Mardek 4 is wroten, and you wrote there, that you gona start on making it at 2014.. I think it's time to start on making it.. I know, you're quite bussy now, and you want to finish your started games, but when you finish them, I hope you'll start working on Mardek 4.. I hope. :)

Now I might be mistaken, but I do believe that Pseudolonewolf or someone else has previously mentioned that the Games List is rather inaccurate. Its more likely That Pseudolonewolf will complete Dream Quest, and MARDEK 4 will likely not be even beginning development until 2015, and that is assuming that Pseudolonewolf starts working on it no later than a couple of months after Dream Quest is released.

I do agree though I am hoping someday the game is made whether or not it is free, doesn't matter to me. Mostly because it is one of the most inspirational Flash Games I've ever played. However the reality is, we are likely not to see MARDEK 4 Until late 2015 or 2016, if at all. However who knows, maybe a couple of months from now, we'll get a pleasantly surprising announcement from Pseudo about MARDEK 4.

(Apologies if this broke any rules or was somehow offensive in any way, as this is my first post.)

I need a little help. I will play the game and then shut down and then come back only for my save file to be erased. Other than that, I love the game.

I have returned solely for one purpose: To comment on Miasmon.

Firstly, lovely smashing work. I knew you had the most potent of the fires of creation in you, and Miasmon really showcases that.

Secondly, gamebreaking bug: At the Undiscovered Ruins Bestial section, the right path, where there's three blokes in one Scentinel sprite, the game freezes when it gets around to "A Gruul begins to form!", presumably the Miasmon variation on "trainer sent out blahmon". Upon retrying, the glitch did not occur again.

My Miasmon, at the time, was Scentinel.

Thirdly, another bizarre freeze. In the middle of fighting super Crayden, and he froze after I beat his Hotdog. Again, using Scentinel. Very strange.

Postscript: How is it that I've caught Sabersaur or whatever, but not its pre-evolution? Bah.

All these spoils, lol.

For the first bug, I encountered that too. It only happened once, and it was after I took the left path first, then proceeded to the right path. Upon resetting and reloading, I took the right path first to see if it would indeed break, and managed to get through the fight. I was using Vampiger, so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

For the second, I'm pretty sure that's the bug Pseudo mentioned in this post. It happened to me two or three times at random (I never had a Scentinel, so), and I couldn't pinpoint a cause either.

And for the PS:I believe you are referring to Sabremander, yes? One with no sprite? In the final cave's patch of grass, you can fight Sabremanders at random, and by doing so you can fill up their Essence bar to 100%. If you do, the "pokrdex" will highlight it, but it's pre-evolution is not in the game. A more interesting (and disappointing) "error" is that although the essence is filled, it does not give a listing in the machine.

It's fun playing through the prototype again, putting the old areas in there wasn't something I saw coming, but it makes sense how they're already done. The game's just as good as I remember it always being.

My only problem seems to be that it's impossible to find Celestyke and Psytick in either the old or new Zenith Forest, I wanted to use a Psytick! D:

Dunno if it was in Beta, but - Pseudo also put in a sort of monster listing for each area, it's the Area tab (fourth from the left) on the start menu. It'll let you know if you've recorded all the monsters in within that area, in addition to chests opened and trainers fought.

Sadly, neither Celestyke and Psytick are random battles anywhere, so they cannot be obtained in this version.

---

If you (or anyone) want more accurate numbers:
Of the 42 Essent forms, 29/31 are obtainable in a single game (only counting one of Arph, Vampurr, or Wrember, chosen from the Curator). Of the unobtainable 11, 6 are shown (Sparkpup, Wingecko, Psytick, Humbug, Celestyke, Runebug), while 5 are completely blank (including Sabremander's and Sahuagirl's pre-evolution Essent forms).

Of the 29 obtainable, only Protonculus can be evolved with any Totem. You get one of either Fire, Water, or Air in the starting area, to create Pyrosimos, Hydrosimos, or Aerosimos respectively. You will obtain the Earth totem at the end, and you may re-evolve your Protonculus again into Geosimos, and back to it's original totemal form if you'd like.

[Must confirm] The other 28 all have a single evolution in this game at level 6, although the evolutions are listed as both the Transient OR Prime stage. I believe that since the level cap is set at 10 in the prototype, Pseudo scrapped the idea of leveling 3 times / putting the Prime evolutions at a later level.

Lastly, 6 of the 28 ALSO have a Totemnal evolution, however they are Totem specific, and since you only get one of three, it is only possible to obtain 2 of 6 evolutions in a single run. The Earth Totem is not used for these. They are as follows:
Fire: Carminymph-Incubuzz and Skularna-Fossizzle
Water: Modestoat-Dexotter and Cyanymph-Syrenymph
Air: (will edit) Gruul-Griffuul and Kitin-

So, in total, in a single playthrough you can get
29 Essent Miasmon
28 Evolved Forms
4 Totemnal Forms
For a total of 61 0f the 71 Miasmon obtainable in the data
And the game has a total of 82/93 Miamon encounterable in the data, with 10 only encountered in trainer battles (no essence), 11 with no data accessable, and 1 (Sabremander) who essence can be gathered, but not obtained.

I'm really enjoying it so far, even if there are some bugs here and there. The only bugs I've encountered so far is pink "Game Over" screen and being unable to move when standing on the gate, but you probably know that already.

This helps me getting warmed up for your upcoming games and I hope I'll see more in the future.
