AFC Progress!!

◊ Posted by A β Pseudolonewolf
I've been neglecting this place recently due to schoolwork, real life concerns and the drama that seems to have been going on here, but I am posting now to show that I've not abandoned the place or anything!

I also have some news relating to my frustratingly delayed games that I still totally make!!

I mostly finished what's now called 'Alora Fane: Creation' months ago, but I've been held back by the story since then; I've written about this before, I think. However! I've now FINALLY decided on enough details to start work on the plot properly, and since all the resources already exist, it's merely a matter of assembling them into something playable. By which I mean that a release is HOPEFULLY close!

It's a shame to think that the community and renown I'd built up following MARDEK has become so fractured and dramatic over the last few years, due to my own personal problems, the shifting attitudes of the site, and the fact that I've gone so long without producing any games... I took about this long between MARDEK 2 and 3, but I think I actually TALKED about games during that time, whereas I've said little here about my development recently despite the fact that it's been very much happening.

I'm thinking about changing that... Perhaps I'll write in depth about the process of development, and the frustrations and challenges that need to be overcome and such, which would of course include showing off finished assets or at least hints of what's to come.

I'd like to write about my work like that, and if people would find it worthwhile, I'll certainly give it some thought. I make no promises however, since I don't know whether I can spare the time, what with all my schoolwork and real life concerns and game-making and such!

I would absolutely LOVE to hear about the development process! I aspire to be a game designer myself, and enjoy reading and hearing about the industry, development process, theory, etc.. I have never heard much about the process from the perspective of a small team/lone creator, and would appreciate any and all information!

I'd actually love to help you with anything if needed, if you ever need a break or someone to run ideas off. inbox me, i started story-boarding games at a young age and I love the Mardek series (annoyed save 1 cant continue to game 2 - but dealing with it)

if you ever need anything you know where i am, and i dont care enough about the drama here so ive happily ignored it.

keep up the great work and am happily waiting for any and all up-coming games (especially Mardek)

I would also like to see more gaming updates. I know there is a lot of drama happening on the site. For that reason and the fact that I am so busy at work, I don't hang around this site as often as I once did. But, when I do come here it is usually with the intent on looking for gaming updates. I can honestly say that if there are more game updates, I would check the site a lot more often.

That would be great! Just seeing more progress of anything makes the wait all the more bearable. I always love seeing behind the scenes things.

Hey, man, anything we get from you is good, in my opinion, as long as we know you ain't dead, I'm good. And I would enjoy learning about your game making process, as I intend to make a few games myself.

I counted four exclamation points. Mardek 4 confirmed!!!!

Edit: Darn I miscounted. Guess not :( Four non-double '!'?

As a published author of both poetry and prose, I offer my humble -free- advice in the way of plot. If you'd like, Not-so-lone wolf, I can give you a copy of my book. If you like it...Well, let's just say I'd be honored to contribute to MARDEK or any other games.

I don't mean to criticize or anything but I fail to see where your advice was unless it's getting a copy of your book? Did you instead mean to offer it as an example pseudo may take notes from? (Not sure why I'm saying this as it's a kind offer anyway.)

Ah, no no no. If Pseudo is stuck in the Plot/Story bit of a game, he is free/encouraged to ask me for a few suggestions, as I'm a bit of an expert on the subject of stories, having written one myself. I love Pseudo's games; MARDEK was actually a major contributor to Dreamheart (My story), so if he inspired me, it's only balanced for me to help inspire him.

I understand that this is entirely well-intentioned, but Pseudo doesn't like to use the ideas of others.

Ah....Well, now I know that. Alright, I just thought I'd offer for the sake of kindness. Hey, that offer will be open indefinitely. I wouldn't even ask for credit. But that's beside the point.

Thanks anyway. Well, let's all hope MARDEK 4 gets released soon. I'm just about done 3.

I for one would be delighted to see this happen, Like many others here I'm rather eager and somewhat desperate for the continuation of the 'Mardek' series. As such, I would not only take great joy in reading about your progress of the 'Mardek' series but it would also satiate my hunger for the actual game in the meantime. I've also grown a keen interest in 'Alora Fane', although I wasn't originally a fan of Dreamquest you've finally managed to reel me in.

It's great to hear that Creation is progressing well! I hope once it's done it'll placate a lot of fans and improve the perspective of the community with its user-generated content.

Sharing the process of development also sounds like a great idea. A lot of crowdfunded projects lately (e.g. Pillars of Eternity, Star Citizen, Kingdom Come: Deliverance) have generated interest by sharing their notes on development with backers, which sounds similar to what you're suggesting.

Wow, it feels so weird to write a comment when the intended recipient probably won't read it. But on the off chance you do, good job on the progress and thanks for the update!
